Believe it or not...
the six new postcards are on the map....but the blue pins are not showing. (One of the technical difficulties!) While we are working on that, you can still click on the general location (the state) and the postcard will pop up. For Prague, click on the Czech Republic and for Bavaria, click close to the bottom of Germany, and it should pop up. Sorry for the technical difficulties....hoping to get it fixed soon!
Fun Facts from our new places...
The postcard from Maine shows Lobster Traps in the front.
The South Carolina Postcard has many fun facts on it:
Kentucky, "the bluegrass state", pictures a sunset.
The picture of Gatlinburg, TN was taken in the Fall.
The photo in Prague, Czech Republic, shows the Old Town Square and the Old Town Astronomical Clock.
The South Carolina Postcard has many fun facts on it:
- home of Vanna White, President Andrew Jackson, Althea Gibson, and Joe Frazier
- state dance is the Shag
- largest producer of peaches, not Georgia
- the salamander was given the honor of official state amphibian
- the walls of the American fort on Sullivan Island, were made of spongy Palmetto logs...the British cannonballs just bounced right off the logs
- two state mottoes: Prepared in mind and resources / While I breathe, I hope

More Postcards...6 to be exact (2 from out of the country)!!
Okay, so it's been awhile since we've updated. Technical difficulties with posting the postcards to the map, didn't help! Hopefully it's working now...
The 6 new postcards are as follows:
1. Islesford, Cranberry Isles, Maine - from a friend of a friend, Karyn Colegrove.
2. South Carolina - from the Saffell Family
3. Hohenschwangau, Bavaria, Germany - from Terry Benz
4. Kentucky - from Jessica Saffell
5. Gatlinburg, Tennessee - from Jessica Saffell
6. Prague, Czech Republic - from cousin Ryan
Thanks to all of you for sending them in! We appreciate them all and all of you!! We are getting postcards from places we've never been and places we never thought we would go to, but may some day. Thanks for the multiple postcards and for the ones from out of the country; and thanks to all of you who have asked other friends and family to participate in this project. We are going to continue to remind and ask for you to keep asking friends and family and keep sending postcards. We still have NOT gotten any from the Buckeye State! LOL And if you check the list on the side of the page, there are more states we have not received any from. (And many, many countries that we would love to get them from!)
Thanks for the newest submissions!

Things we've learned from the newest postcards:
Some of the postcards have come in with interesting facts, others do not. So, from either the postcard itself or the sender's notes...we've learned these things:
1. Hilton Head Island is known for miles of white sandy beaches and beautiful sunrises and sunsets.
2. Carolina Beach is a great vacation spot with lots to do. They have an amusement park and although it's hot there, the breeze from the ocean cools you off.
3. Gaston Street, in Savannah, GA, has old stately homes with ornate iron work and is a favorite place for visitors to go.
4. According the the postcard, "Wyoming - Not for Wimps", it states that Bison refers to North American Buffalo, where in other parts of the world they are just called buffalo. Bison stand 5 1/2 feet high at the shoulders. Adult males weigh 1200-2000 pounds and females weigh 700-900 pounds.
5. Virginia City's Comstock Lode yielded more than $400 million in gold and silver, brought Nevada its statehood, and helped Abraham Lincoln finance the Civil War.
6. Lake Tahoe straddles the California and Nevada borders. The postcard came from the California side and is a picture of Emerald Bay which is three miles long and one mile wide and the most photographed spot in Lake Tahoe.
7. Chicago is located on the southwest shore of Lake Michigan and has frequently changeable weather and a colorful history.
oh, and one more : )
8. Ron Jon Surf Shop is the "World's Most Famous" Surf Shop. The original shop is in New Jersey but other locations include Cocoa Beach, Ft. Lauderdale, Orlando, Ft. Meyers, Myrtle Beach, Key West, and Panama City.
Great facts and great postcards! We've really enjoyed receiving them from all over and each trip to the Post Office brings a surprise. Thanks for all of your help with this project. Please continue to have friends and family drop a postcard in the mail!!!

# 7 - Our first Postcard from out of the country....
Yay! Our first postcard from out of the country came from the Cayman Islands. Thank you Wooldridge Family!!! The postcard is a picture of a pirate ship out in the ocean and the back states that tourists can take boats out and get great views of the famous Seven Mile Beach on the Island. Sounds like fun!!
Move the google map around to find the Cayman Islands! And keep those postcards comin'!!! : )

Hello Again...
Our Tuesday trip to the Post Office yielded two more Postcards...
#5 from Ocean City, MD from Madison
and
#6 from Fenwick Island, Delaware from Margaret.
Thank you both!!!
We're learning things from these postcards too! : ) In the Fenwick Island Postcard you can see the Famous Fenwick Island Lighthouse which is located on the Mason-Dixon Line separating Delaware and Maryland.
Don't forget to click on the markers on the map above to see a photo of each of the postcards and who they were from!!!
We've also added two lists to the right... one of where we've received postcards from and the states we still need them from. We can add places from beyond the grand ol' USA if we get any!!!
And, if you want to follow by email, we've added a box at the bottom to add your email address and you'll receive an email notification whenever there is a new post.
Please continue to help us get more postcards... tell your friends and send the link to this site so they can follow too! (http://www.postcardsacrossamerica.blogspot.com/)

1st Trip to the Post Office
The kids and I made our first trip to the Post Office today to see if we had received any postcards. I told them not to get too excited because we didn't know when any would be arriving and the box might be empty. Boy were they surprised when I opened it and there were 4 postcards in there!!! We arranged them by the postmark date and determined the order they were received:
1. Aspen, Colorado from Amy, Donnie and Jagr
2. Santa Fe, NM also from Amy, Donnie and Jagr
3. New Mexico from Larry and Kaye
4. Washington, DC from 10 year old Corrin
Thank you all SOOOO much! :)
I have added pins to the google map to show where they came from and if you click on them, you can also see a thumbnail of the actual postcards and who they were from. You can move the google map around with your mouse and click the link below the map to see it in another window.
Please continue to TELL YOUR FRIENDS about this and ask them to help us out! We appreciate it! : )
Also, feel free to "follow" the blog and/or post comments on the postcards or whatever else. So far, I only posted a photo of the first postcard received in its own post. If you want to see each one posted separately below, let me know and we can work on that too!

Welcome!
Welcome to our "Postcards Across America" blog. We've created this site to track where we receive postcards from. Our kids have a summer project of collecting postcards from as many places as they can! We hope you will help us!!! Many people travel throughout the summer months when the kids are off school and while doing some traveling, we'd like for you to send us a postcard. Our goal is to collect at least one postcard from each of the 50 US States (and even beyond if anyone is traveling outside the country!!). We plan to post where each one comes from and a photo of each postcard. Feel free to send us multiples from different places you travel too. Don't feel you need to travel far from home to participate... there are plenty of neat places to visit closer to home or for day trips, in addition to vacations further away from home. We will gladly post ALL postcards received!
Please help us... and ask your friends and family to help us too! If you want to follow along with us, keep checking this blog.
Postcards can be mailed to:
